THE BRIEF

King & Wood Mallesons is one of the largest global law firms. After joining with the UK’s SJ Berwin LLP their website needed to be redesigned to create one global portal for a firm with offices across the world.

Working with a pre-existing backend framework we were tasked with all elements of UX, design and SEO for the site. Our solution would then be implemented by King & Wood Mallesons’ development agency.

THE SOLUTION

There were two distinct strands to the King & Wood Mallesons project: creative design/user experience and a full SEO audit and recommendations.

Ed Nicholson, our Lead Creative, describes his approach: “The new site had to be a global shop window for an international brand, so a clean design that favoured the user experience was a must.”

An extensive series of interviews with stakeholders and the brands clients were undertaken to understand both required and desired aspects of the site. On top of this user journeys were mapped using Clicktale to see how users interacted with the existing site.

“We created a simple, beautiful design with clear navigation through the site,” Ed explains.

The SEO side of the project was handled by Daniel D’Auria, Search Strategist. “The major challenge from an SEO perspective was taking four sites, with content in multiple languages, putting them into one domain and then pushing out regionally targeted content from it.”

A URL restructuring was undertaken alongside the creation of a new taxonomy for the site to ensure a consistent labelling of their services.

A full content audit was carried out to decide what content needed migrating. With thousands of pages of content this required extreme attention to detail. Redirect mapping was vital to make sure that pages directed correctly following migration.

THE RESULT

The scale of the project, and having to liaise with an external development agency and the client stakeholders, made this one of our most challenging projects. The client was delighted by the new design and our in depth SEO recommendations and guidelines.
