A building saying

2023 in a nutshell…

Google has not been shy of an update this year, this combined with the ever advancing world of AI has really kept the SEO community on their toes. From the Helpful Content Update to a whopping 4 Core Updates, including the longest rollout of a core update thus far, 2023 really delivered some curveballs in the world of SEO.

I can’t even begin to list the unconfirmed updates that have also been reported this year. The result of all of this change and testing is volatility. The SERPs have been jumping around with many a (SEMRush coined) “Googlequake” taking place as we navigated our way through a year of strong updates.

The best way to visualise these updates is by plotting a graph and so this is exactly what I have done, to show you when they took place and how long they lasted.

So if you can’t tell already, my thoughts on 2023… aside from being fantastic as I secured Taylor Swift Eras Tour Tickets, is that it has been volatile. Google are doing their job and by doing their job they are keeping us on our toes.
